The Rich History of Fashion from Around the Globe

No matter if you’re a woman, or a man. You want to look your best. This is where fashion comes in. Do you ever consider fashion history when you go to the mall or boutique?

A Look at Fashion History Around the World

Fashion has existed in some form or another for as long as people have been around. Fashion’s history began with humans who used animal skins and shells as accessories to their bodies. Special garments were worn on special occasions, which is very similar to how we dress today.

Naturalism was first introduced in Ancient Greece and other regions. If you look at the many ancient sculptures, you will notice that there was a lot of pride in the human body. Fashion, therefore, meant that you wore as little clothing as you could.

Fashion history, as we know it, began in the Renaissance. The Renaissance was a period of intellectual and cultural enlightenment. It makes perfect sense that fashion thought evolved with that period. Women and men took great pride wearing powdered wigs that were decorative and lasted into the early 20th century.

A Walk through the Centuries

The 17th century saw the birth of new fashion trends that women and men continued to follow. For example, plain and decorative buckled shoes became very popular depending on the economic status of the person wearing them.

As a way to protect themselves from the cold, both men and women started wearing capes. Women and men started to wear the hats now known as Pilgrim Hats. One difference is that women tended to wear feathers in their caps more often than men.

In the 18th century, men wore an outfit consisting of a shirt, outer coat, stockings and buckled shoes. All three-cornered hats were worn by them from the beginning. Women tended to wear more basic clothes and often conceal their hair with a white cap.

Fashion has a tendency to become history, as the 20th, 21st, and 19th centuries have shown. This is because fashion trends change constantly, as history has demonstrated. Fashion history covers every culture and all corners of the globe. Next time you visit a mall to shop for something else, think about fashion history to see how far it has come.
